HR Challenge timing: early pulls it, late goes the other way
In HR Challenge you time the pitch by ear. The whoosh gets louder and peaks at the moment the ball reaches you: that is when to swing. Swing early and you pull it; swing late and it goes the other way.
Listen, don't look
You do not need to watch the screen. Each pitch gets louder as it comes in and is loudest when it reaches you. The ring around Laces closes at the same moment, if you want a visual cue. HR Challenge is best with the watch speaker.
Read every swing
- Perfect timing! means you were right on it. With a strong swing, that is a home run.
- Otherwise the watch shows how many milliseconds early or late you were.
- Too early sends the ball to your pull side (left field for a right-handed hitter), too late to the other side.
- After every hit you see where it landed on the field; the iPhone app keeps a spray chart.
Chances and fouls
Ten chances per round. A home run or a foul keeps your chance; anything else uses one. Not swinging at a pitch is a called strike.
Pick your difficulty
- Easy: slow pitches, more room on timing, easier home runs.
- Normal: all pitches, standard timing.
- Pro: more fastballs, strict timing.
Each difficulty has its own Game Center leaderboard for home runs per round. Want more distance? Read How to hit farther: distance and exit velocity.
